Tips for Staying Motivated

It never seems to fail; you set a wonderful goal, you do very well the first few days or even weeks, then it stops.  You start to lose the motivation and determination that you had before.  You then begin to struggle with finding a new sour ce of motivation.  Too many, this seems to be an endless cycle.  I have good news!  This does not have to be you.  Why?  Well, I have a very helpful and successful strategy for you.

DO IT FOR YOU!!!!!

Really?!  If it’s that simple, why doesn’t it work for me?  Do yourself a favor, ask yourself “Am I really wanting this and doing it for me?”
Think about it.  We have many reasons for wanting to lose the weight; to look better, to be skinny, because society says I’m fat, it will make my husband/wife love me more, I am tired of being fat.  These are all great reasons, but in truth they are for other people rather than for you.
Dig deep and make a list of all the reasons you want to lose the weight.  Every little reason is significant, so write it down.
Next, I want you to highlight only the ones that are truly for you.  (ex.  “I want to get rid of medications.” “I want to be healthy.” “I want more energy.” “I want to participate in life.”)  If they are to make you prettier, be loved by others, take care of others, they are not for you and you alone.  Yes, they may build your confidence…but then your confidence would be the reason.
Yes, once you have more energy and are able to participate in life you will also be better able to take care of your family.  The first has to happen for the second to happen.  It’s all about cause and effect.
Once you have all your goals written and highlighted, hang them where you will see them every day.  We forget about ourselves at times and this will be a great reminder.
