Lose Weight by Taking Time for YOU

D. Clow-Maryland: man on rock

It is important that you take time for yourself every day.  This is one of the most neglected parts of any weight loss journey.  We focus on nutrition and have that down pat, we focus on exercise and are streaking quite well with that, but what about ourselves?  Where is the time for us just to sit, relax and focus on ourselves and our journey?

I truly suggest that you schedule in time for yourself.  If an hour is too much right now, block out a 5-10 minute time slot in your day.  DO NOT let anything interfere with this.  This is a time for you and only you.

Now that you have scheduled the time, what are you going to do?  Here are some ideas:

Journal:  Write down everything you have done in the last 24 hours.  Write down how you are feeling.  Write how well you are doing, or not doing, on your goals.   Write what you have learned, what you can do better, what you are doing well, where you want to be in 5 years.   Just write.Go for a leisurely walk outdoors:  Take in that fresh air and just be with nature.  Use this time to reflect on your journey.  How are you doing on your goals; what are you doing well, where can you improve?

Read a book:  Pick up that novel you have been meaning to read, and read it.  Your body will relax and rejuvenate itself.  Scheduling just 10 minutes a day for ready will surprise you how many books you can check off your list.

Take a bath:  Hot, bubble baths are relaxing in many ways.  They relax your muscles and can help get rid of that tightness and tension.  Plus, they are soothing for the mind.  Take this time just to be calm and alone.

Listen to music:  Music is very enlightening; there is music for every mood.  Listen to some relaxing music to calm yourself and relax.  Or, listen to some upbeat music to rejuvenate yourself for the rest of the day.

Watch your favorite movie or television show:  How often do you actually get to watch that one show or movie you have just been “dying” to see?  (psst….this also makes a great reward for staying on track with your nutrition and fitness goals.)

Whatever it is that you choose, ENJOY IT – after all, by this point you have spent countless hours on others.   It is time you spent some on you.
