Avoid Holiday Weight Gain with these 9 Tips

The holidays are here and I want to keep this post short.  I know that tomorrow is the big day for many of you; that is precisely why I wanted to make sure that this post was up.  I want you to have the best holiday ever, without having to worry about losing your losing streak.

🙂 See what I did there.  I want you to be able to continue losing, or begin losing weight this holiday season so that you can reach your weight loss goals.holiday

Here are simple tips that you can use today, tomorrow, and every day to keep yourself on track:

#1  Keep your goal in sight

It’s your weight loss.  You are always in control, the holidays are not any different.

#2  Provide healthy options.

Whether you are hosting the party or someone else is, you always have the opportunity to prepare a healthy dish.

#3  Remain Active.

Keep your regular exercise schedule the best you can.  You do not have to put in twice as much work around the holidays.  Simply maintaining a regular exercise schedule will be enough to keep you on track.  You may need to alter your exercises, but not the amount of time.

#4  Be Choosey.

Take time to look over all of your options and choose the foods your truly want.

#5  Decide Ahead of Time.

Before you go to your party, decide whether you are going to allow yourself to indulge, or not.  Then decide how many pieces of pie, cookies, or deserts you are going to allow yourself to have.  Also you want to decide ahead of time if you are going to allow yourself to indulge on some of the other rich foods served as part of the meal.  Either decision is fine, as long as you stick to it.

#6  Get Support.

Let a family member or friend know your decisions and ask them to help play your conscience.

#7   Re-gift and share treats or foods.

Send extra food home with friends and family.  Or, take the extra treats into work and share with your co-workers.  If you get a box of chocolates or cookies as a gift from work or elsewhere, re-gift it at your next party if you have decided you do not want to indulge in those specific treats.

#8  Do Not Save Calories and Binge.

Eat your normal meals throughout the day, and definitely be sure to eat breakfast.  If you don’t eat before the party, you will feel as though you are starving and eat way more than you should.  You will also be more likely to go over your calorie budget by doing this.  You can still “save calories” in the sense that you eat less for breakfast than you normally would, but do not leave yourself famished.

#9  Enjoy the Time with Family and Friends.

Take time to enjoy your family and friends.  Do not focus all of your time on the food, the celebration is about being happy with those around you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
